Atkins Diet vs. Abs Diet
I have successfully completed 2 weeks of The Atkins Diet, just like I said I would, but now I am feeling conflicted. The Atkins was a great success; in those two weeks I've lost 8lbs! That's the most that I've lost during this whole competition but now what? Do I move one and try something new...like I said I would. Or do I stick to it for the remainder of this competition since I know that I can continue to lose weight?
I have started to read The Abs Diet today and I like it a lot! I feel that this is something I can definitely stick to, unlike the Atkins. The Atkins I found was great and I honestly never felt hungry or had too many cravings and seeing those numbers go down definitely was a great motivation, but I know for a fact this isn't a way of life that I can stick to. I look it at more like a great start, a good way to lose the weight that I want and than go into a healthy way of eating to maintain the weight off.
The Abs Diet has a whole section devoted to explaining why low carb diets make you fat. To give you a short summary it basically states that the Atkins works just like any other diet. It restricts you from certain foods (carbs) and by doing so you will lose weight because you are actually consuming less calories due to that restriction. Sounds convincing to me. But then the Atkins explains how eating more protein and fat help boost your metabolism and utilize fat as energy, helping you to burn more fat when working out.
I agree the Atkins is great at making me feel amazing and energized as well as never hungry and yes when I do eat carbs I usually feel bloated, tired and slow. What i don't understand is the fact that it limits you from good carbs as well, such as fruits; since they are high in sugar. Whole grains are also not allowed and these are high in fiber which is great for your digestive system. It's not the bad things that I miss, such as; bagels, pizza, white bread, or even deserts. It's the little things I miss, such as; milk, whole wheat bread or paninis and fruit smoothies.
I find talking myself more and more out of the Atkins as I keep writing this blog. I guess subconsiously I've made a decision. I know that I won't and am incapable of sticking with the Atkins for much longer, but the question is how much longer do I continue? Do I begin to give something new a try or do i try Atkins for another week to pull great numbers again. I have to make a decision by tomorrow. Well I guess I'll figure it out once I've weighed myself in the morning and have figured out how much this diet has continued to help.
Oh and by the way, just in case you were wondering yes I did reach my target weight goal this week. I was exactly 184.8! Didn't have to pay a dime!
Also, another rule of the diet I forgot to mention earlier is that, as part of the competition we all had to pick an article of clothing that none of us no longer fit into and would like to. To prove that we didnt fit into it, we all had to take pictures of ourself in the clothing before our first weigh in and then again before our last weigh in. This competition is for a total of 10 weeks and this week was week 5 meaning we are already half way through. Therefore I was curious if I was able to fit into them yet.
When I first took the picture the button was about 4 inches apart from the hole. I couldn't even suck it and close it! When I tried them on yesterday they closed! I mean of course they were super tight and I had love handles hanging over the sides, but so what...they fucking closed!
This little fact motivated me to make a small side challenge for myself. For my 23rd birthday/spring break I am planning a trip with my fiance to visit my mom and siblings in Florida. I leave on the 19th which is in 16 days, so I've given myself this much time to fit into a bathing suit that i have. I currently do fit into it but not the way I would like to. I've taken a picture of how it looks on me now and I hope to make progress by then. I have 16 days left. Wish me luck! :)

I'm so proud of you!! I can't even imagine having your kind of will power, all I do is pig out and watch TV. Everyone I know is talking about "beach bodies" and going to the gym and I'm scarfing down snacks and trying to get through school. I wish I had the motivation to start pigging out and eating better.
you can do it!!! whenever i read your blog i wanna actually cheer you on, like stand on a chair and shout encouragements! your willpower is amazing!
...what's up with the photo of you in that item of clothing. It would make a great visual. Definitely proofread your blog before posting. And how about a hyperlink to The Atkins Diet and the Abs Diet book from amazon or any other articles comparing the two. At any rate, keep up the good work!
totally did atkins the summer after my sophomore year in college. Dan.ger.ous. Seriously. If I remember correctly, it was like 20 carbs a day? Yea you get to eat meat and cheese and that good stuff, but I never felt fully strong. I'd get dizzy and shakey and CRANKY. God help the person that pissed me off on any given day of my diet, I'd SNAP. No bread = an angry sultan.
Like you, I realized I couldn't keep this up for the rest of my life, so when I fell off the wagon, I fell hard. Getting your body used to never ingesting more than 20g of carbs a day, the second you start shooting up to 100g+ a day, your body registers the fat LIKE THAT. So after losing 25 glorious pounds, I gained back 35 in the span of 1-2 months.
bad news bears.
i hope the abs diet works or is more enjoyable! smooooothiessss
All food has a makeup that comes from protein, fats, and carbohydrates. That simple. Let's not complicate it further than that. Fats can be broken down into saturated and unsaturated, carbs can be broken down into simple and complex, but we don't need to do that for a simple lesson. All learning results from building on basic principles, and our basic principles are to understand that what we eat is a makeup of fats, carbs, and protein.
